The gift of today

Upworthy continues to deliver. This time on the gift of today.

I haven’t come across Louie Schwarzenberg before, and am glad I did today. Watch this 10 minute video and rejoice in the gift of today:

I loved that clip. And lo and behold, it’s actually just 50% of the TED Talk Louie gave. Here’s the full version:

Do you take notice of the gift that today brings?

Obedience!

Saw part of a quote on Facebook, posted by True Activist.20131113-142317.jpgHere’s the quote, spoken by Banksy, in its totality:

The greatest crimes in the world are not committed by people breaking the rules. It’s people who follow orders that drop bombs and massacre villages. As a precaution to ever committing major acts of evil it is our solemn duty never to do what we’re told, this is the only way we can be sure.

I would lie if I said it isn’t ”easier” with obedient people. Of course it is. Obedient people don’t ask Why, they don’t challenge me, they don’t talk back or question my actions or orders.

Children, by their very nature, seems to be full of Why’s. But something happens along the way to adulthood, somewhere the desire and curiosity sparking the question Why is trampled upon, frowned upon, ridiculed, considered a nuisance. So the children, as a means to survive, stop asking Why. They hold their tongue, and slowly start to die, to become something other than themselves. Finally the day comes when they have forgotten their true self, and have completely conformed to a society demanding their obedience.

But beware the inherent danger that comes along with said obedience!

I’d much rather have a world full of people asking Why, than a world full of obedient people blindly following orders. Which world would you prefer? And what steps are you taking to creating that world?

Inner peace

Being able to tap into the greater wisdom, that connects us all, can totally change your take on life. I’ve experienced it myself, and am so grateful to the gift that each day brings me. For me, the habit of reflecting have change my life around completely.

So, how come we are not, generally speaking, teaching our young how to do that, how to connect to the inner wisdom, and experience inner peace? And honestly, why are we not letting young children keep this knowledge, that they have innately from the get go. Somethings happens in the school system, and children loose touch with their inner wisdom.

There are many answers to why this is so, but I want to show you what can happen when we take action and introduce something as simple as meditation in schools. Watch for yourself:

So – what can you do, today, to bring about an opportunity to reflect and connect, enabling inner peace?

Present vs Future

Stumbled across this quote the other day:

20131108-053543.jpg

As someone deeply engaged in creating a better world, a sustainable learning society, this quote really hit me heard. Because this is exactly what I believe.

It is so vital to take a long good look at what we are doing right now, in the present moment. If it doesn’t resemble the future we dream of – why, then we should stop immediately and ask ourselves Why?

Why doesn’t the present look like what I’m dreaming of?

What I’ve discovered since initiating the #skolvåren-movement (aka the school spring) is that many people actually lack a dream of the future. Their image of the future is simply ‘more of what we have today’, and they cannot fathom something else.

For me – that implies that they have lost the ability to dream.

For me – that implies that we are at our societal peak, i.e. this is as good as it gets, and society cannot become better than its current set up.

For me – that’s not good enough.

However, I don’t have a clear view of what a sustainable learning society looks like, in detail. I cannot predict the future so I have little clue. But what I can do is envision what that future would feel like, to me. When I close
my eyes an think ahead – I can awaken the feeling I want to have, from the settings of a sustainable learning society.

And you know what? I think that’s sufficient in and of itself!

I don’t need to know the What and How of the future, not yet. Because, if my Why if strong enough / the What and How will fall in place. I go one step at a time, and each step will bring me closer to the feeling I am striving towards.

So, look closely at the present you are constructing. It should look like the future you are dreaming.

Is it?

Dust if you must

There’s a poem written by Rose Milligan of Lancaster, England, that goes like this:

Dust if you must
but wouldn’t it be better
to paint a picture, or write a letter,
bake a cake, or plant a seed;
ponder the difference between want and need.

Dust if you must
but there is not much time,
with rivers to swim and mountains to climb!
Music to hear, and books to read,
friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must
but the world’s out there
with the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,
a flutter of snow, a shower of rain;
this day will not come round again.

Dust if you must
but bear in mind,
old age will come and it’s not kind.
And when you go,
and go you must…
You, yourself, will make more dust.

20130923-122822.jpgI am not much for dusting, and I can’t say I’ve ever felt that dusting is a must. But there are those who do. And that’s not better or worse than not feeling the urge to dust. But put it in the right perspective – do what you do for you, because it serves you and not because it’s a must.

Are your musts interfering with you living life to it’s fullest?

Wealth

I am astounded.

And bothered.

We need to make a change.

Don’t know what I’m talking about?

Check this out:

I haven’t checked the data behind this – but they are listed at the end of the clip, so they should be easy to verify. But whether or not the data is 100% accurate or not, I am sure there is too much that is true!

So watch, and then ask yourself:
Is this the world you want to live in?

Trusting your answer to that question is No – I challenge you on what action you intend to take today, here and now, to make the world a better place?

We want coaching

We want coaching, is the headline of an article in Financial Times, stating that high executives are asking for coaching and/or mentoring. The coaching business was on a downward slope, but is picking up again. I’d like to think it has to do with professional coaching becoming more the norm.

I agree though! I can see the value of coaching for basically everyone. Like Michael Neill says:

”You would benefit from walking up to a lamp post and having a chat with it, after work every day. Imagine how much more benefit you would have if you exchanged the lamp post with a professional coach!”

You might think that coaching isn’t for you. If that’s the case, I challenge you to give it a try. I will give you a 2 hour complimentary virtual CoachWalk session if you dare test your beliefs – just send me an email to helena.roth at respondi.se. And of course, that’s a valid offer for those of you who already know the power of coaching, but want to try out new venues, as well.
